First of all I think that I should touch on this whole debacle know as replacement refs. I think that it would be in the NFL’s best interest to work this whole deal with the regular referees out before everything the game stands for get flushed down the toilet. The horrible calls, or lack thereof, isn’t just a problem but the injuries are the bigger issue. I compare these guys to a new babysitter; the kids will continue to see how much they can get away with before they finally get called out on it. Hopefully week 4 we will see the return of the regular refs. It would be dumb to send the replacements into Green Bay after the call heard round the sports world Monday night.
OK, on to Denim Chicken and their stunning 114-96 victory over Tical 2.0. DC saw the emergence of Andre Brown, the backup RB for the New York Giants. With Bradshaw still not 100% from his neck injury in Week 2 we saw the ground domination of Brown Thursday night against Carolina. Not only did he have 2 TD’s he set the pace for Denim Chicken early in Week 3 putting up 27 points, the most for the entire team. It will be interesting going forward to see what impact he will make in the upcoming weeks with Bradshaw set to return for Week 4.
We saw a lot of good this past week. The Saints defense still sucks but Drew Brees is finding his own without the Sean Peyton who is suspended for the season after the discovery of the Saints placing bounties on opposing players. Breese threw for 240 yards with 2 TD’s and 1 interception however the Saints still fell to the KC Chiefs in overtime which brings me back to the fact that their D sucks. If they aren’t careful Who Dat nation could take on a whole new meaning in the Bayou.
Guess who’s back, back again? Welker’s back, tell a friend. Hallelujah! I can’t say it enough. Did it really take Week 3 to make Welker an impact? He finally saw some action and was playing like all fantasy owners were hoping for. Although he made no trips to the end zone he had 8 receptions for 142 yards. Fellow Pat Danny Woodhead was a great sleeper pick for me rushing for 34 yards and scoring a TD late in the game. Needless to say New England lost in the very last seconds of the game not because Welker married a hooter girl during the off season but because of another horrible but not surprising call by the replacement refs.
All and all Denim Chicken beat the odds. They put up 114 total points while only projected at 89. Marcades Lewis, you are still horrible but with Hernandez out and many other TE on the waiver injured I have no choice but to play you even though I could leave your spot empty and still come out the same.
The replacements have caused lots of controversy this season but are the regular season refs asking for too much? The inconsistencies with calls being made, the lack of experience most of these guys have and just the all-around confusion have the football world turned upside down. Fans, players, owners and most of all coaches are furious, while Roger Goodell doesn’t seem to mind the chaos. You haven’t been able to go anywhere this past week without hearing about this disaster, I mean you know it’s bad when Bears fans are taking the side of the Green Bay Packers on that call Monday night. Hopefully we will see football return to normal next week and fantasy owners will be able to relax a little more knowing they can go back to blaming themselves for who they started and not the replacement refs. Bye weeks start next week so we should see many owners scrambling and the trade offers starting but I think I speak for everyone that when the 2012-13 season is over we will all look back and think about a season that could’ve been without 3 weeks of madness.
