I must say, it is hard to part ways with your first round pick. Since I chose Roddy White, wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons, he immediately got sent to my untouchables list. For those that don’t know you can place up to 3 people on your team who others teams cannot touch. At any time you can move people around and even trade them if someone makes an offer but those are the players who are most likely to stay on your roster all season long.
Even though Roddy was on that list, I received a trade offer for him each week of the season, and for all five weeks, those trades have been declined. Who wouldn’t want Roddy White on their team? After much debate, I became that person. Atlanta’s passing game has been mediocre this season and QB Matt Ryan has been handing off the ball to running back Michael Turner and with other receivers like Tony Gonzalez, Julio Jones and Jason Snelling, White is double teamed almost every week. Needless to say, the receiver is not having the season he did last year. In 2010 he led the NFC and the NFL in receptions and was selected for his 2nd consecutive Pro Bowl. So far in 2011 he has 364 yards and only 2 touchdowns which in fantasy football terms means he has only given me 50 total points. Thursday night I sealed his fate, trading him and Miami running back Reggie Bush to IPFK team Underoath and owner Billy Harper (league manager) for Marcus Colston, wide receiver for New Orleans and Pittsburg Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall.
By the time Sunday rolled around I couldn’t be more excited and nervous. I had a whole new starting line up and was playing my best friend Jason Cunningham, owner of team Boo Yeah. I was even more nervous to see what my first round pick Roddy White was going to do as Atlanta was playing Carolina. Halleluiah! I came out swinging this week and won my game by over 50 points. My new players combined for 44 points with Colston getting 24 and Mendy getting 20. You may be wondering what Roddy ended up doing over there on team Underoath, well I can tell you, it wasn’t great, it wasn’t even good. With only 2 receptions for 21 yards he racked up 4 points. The kicker ended up with more points than him.
A tough decision turned out to benefit me in the end. It feels good to be right when everyone told me trading him was the biggest mistake I could make. With that being said I am again sitting pretty at the top in 3rd place. A tough path lies ahead for me this week as my Eagles defense is on a bye week as well as Welker, Woodhead and Hernandez from the Patriots. With that being said it is time to put my claims in on the waivers, pick those up who haven’t been claimed, make some trade offers and set my team because Sunday will be here before I know it.
